Those first few weeks with your baby go by in a blink. The tiny curled-up legs, the squishy cheeks, the milk-drunk sleepy sighs: this is the stage most parents tell me they wish they could bottle. A newborn session is how we keep it.
The question I hear most is: when should I book? Here is the short answer, and then the details.
Book in pregnancy, relax later
The happiest time to book is while you are still expecting, ideally a few months before your due date. Then, when your little one arrives, there is nothing to organise. You message me the good news, and we find your date together.
Babies do love to surprise us, arriving early, on time or fashionably late. Your due date is simply the starting point, and I plan around your baby, not the calendar.
The sweet spot: the first 3 weeks
The best time to photograph your newborn is within the first 3 weeks. At this age, babies are at their sleepiest, so we can capture those curly, squishy, snoozy moments that change so quickly.
Do not worry if you are past that point, though. Later is absolutely fine. Your baby will still be tiny and beautiful, and I will tailor your session to their age and mood. If you are unsure, just get in touch and we will talk it through.
How it works
- Get in touch. Tell me your due date and any questions, and we will plan your session around your baby’s arrival.
- Secure your session. Your session is booked once the session fee is paid. Until then, no date is held.
- Tell me when baby arrives. I would love to hear your news, and we will choose your session date together.
A calm, cosy morning
Newborn sessions take place at my warm studio in Barking, East London, on weekday mornings from 10am. Plan for around 2 to 3 hours. That sounds like a lot, but most of it is feeding, cuddling and settling, with nothing rushed. If baby needs a snuggle or a nap, we simply pause. Mum and dad are very much part of the day too, and those family moments are often the ones you treasure most.
Curious what the day looks like? My newborn posing guide shows what to expect and how I keep your baby safe and comfortable.
