Kids Holidays

As the holiday season kicks into higher gear, the pressure to come up with fantastic family portrait sessions also intensifies. And while getting the adults can be a chore, getting the kids to get in line for the photo shoot is the real headache.

Fortunately for you, we have some nifty tips that could tilt this tug-of-war during the kids’ holidays in your favour.

Make sure you have your photo shoot done in the morning

Most times, kids are happy and generally full of energy during the mornings. And unless you want to torture yourself with the sound of your baby crying, you should avoid scheduling your portrait shoot anywhere near your kid’s sleep or mealtime.

Children will be children and it is almost impossible to get them to stay still for that perfect portrait shot. But your chances are significantly higher if you pick the right time to take that photograph.

Just relax

As alluded to in the section above, kids will do kiddy things. After all, your child is not a professional model. So just try to take a deep breath whenever things do not go your way. Try to relax a little and put yourself in your kid’s shoes. He or she is not used to staying put or having a machine that has a bright, flashing light placed right in front of them. So be patient and enjoy the moment.

Generate some excitement around the photo shoot

Your excitement is infectious to kids and how you approach the event would go a long way in how your kids would react to it as well. If you head to the day of the photoshoot, exuding much excitement and joy, your kids may pick up the importance of the event and would be just as thrilled about it as you are.

Prepair the kids for the photo shoot

Don’t ambush the kids with an impromptu photo session. Rather, you should let them know all about it several weeks before the event to give them ample time to ready themselves. You can help them get prepared for the big day as well by showing them photos of previous photo shoots. In fact, you can wow them by showing them photos of you as a kid during the holidays!

In order to lighten up the mood some more and give it more of a party feel, you can try to invite some friends and family members over to your house during the photo shoot. Some kids actually are at their best behaviour whenever there are other people around them.

You can also prepare some of your kids’ favourite food as some sort of reward for their participation in the photo shoot. Most times, parents abhor giving kids sugary treats for fear of them having too much energy. But what the heck, it’s the holiday season and the kids are a lot easier to work with when they are either well-fed or have some of their favourite treats to munch on.
